To whom it may concern,

It is with great pleasure that we would like to invite one representative of your organisation to the forthcoming European wide meeting on Fatherhood and MenCare, that will take place in Vienna, Austria from October 24-25, 2019.

The meeting is sponsored by Oak Foundation Eastern Europe and Promundo-US and will bring together 40 representatives from Central and Eastern Europe together with local researchers and activists to share and exchange what we know and what is happening on men and caregiving. We will explore the following topics:

  • Examples of campaigns, efforts of working with men and boys in order to transforming common notions of fatherhood and men as caregivers throughout Europe e.g. MenCare campaing Croatia, Bulgaria.
  • Specifics of Central and Eastern European political frameworks for tailoring campaigns and gender progressive work with/for men and boys.
  • Discussing the concept of „caring masculinity“ (theory, empirical evidence and political implications).
  • Input on the concept of „toxic masculinity“ and how this concept can be used for emancipatory work with men and boys.
  • Historical developments and current challenges on fatherhood in the region.
  • Interactive workshops to get to know new methods and foster exchange.

The methods used will be a mix of presentation, interactive workshops and open space discussion. If you want to contribute something to the content of the program (giving a presentation, workshop or having some organizational materials to demonstrate on an information table), please let us know upon your registration form!

Practicalities

The meeting will be part of the MenEngage Europe (MEE) activities 2019 and therefore will also bring together representatives from the network. It will be a great opportunity to exchange good practices, and strengthen the ties between organizations concerned with transforming masculinities. The meeting will be organized by MEE member organization Verein poika (www.poika.at) in Vienna, Austria and will be co-organized by the MenEngage Europe secretariat (menengageeurope@emancipator.nl).

The meeting is free of charge and accommodation, breakfast, joint dinner (24th) and lunch will be covered for one person per organization. Support for travel costs is available (€200). The hotel will be arranged and paid by us for 2 nights.
However, to include as many organizations and experts as possible, it would be great if you can pay for your own travel expenses, so we would be able to support others with less financial back up. Please let us know upon your registration form!

The meeting will focus on organizations from Eastern/Central Europe but will also offer some place to other European organizations working on fatherhood and caring masculinities. We attempt to have a balance in the regional backgrounds and will communicate this with you if necessary. If you are not sure about the possibilities of your participation, or you have other questions regarding registration, please get in touch with MEE’s secretariat at menengageeurope@emancipator.nl

For any other queries about the meeting and content, please contact Teresa Schweiger, teresa@poika.at and/or +43  – 660 – 5707742
